All EAEU members should sign agreement to set up counterpart of IAC - minister

MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. All member-states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should sign an agreement to set up a new agency for investigating air incidents, a counterpart of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said in an interview for TASS special project Top Officials. "An agreement is being drafted. It is to be signed by the five EAEU members - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus and Russia. Hopefully, we will have a final version ready at the beginning of 2018. The agreement will be open for any country’s signature that may decide to join in," Sokolov said. In late October, the Eurasian Economic Commission, a body that regulates the EAEU’s activity, started coordinating a draft agreement on setting up a counterpart of the IAC. The project will be considered by a special working group involving experts of the EAEU member-states. The minister earlier explained that the format of the IAC today does not allow making decisions by consensus. He did not rule out that Russia could withdraw from the organization, but the final decision will be made after the new agency for investigating air incidents is established. Read more
