Energy Ministry says no plan to impose tax on NGVs

BANGKOK, September 18 (TNA) -- The Energy Ministry confirmed that its Oil Plan to be implemented from this year until 2036 would maintain privileges for natural gas for vehicles (NGVs) and exempt excise tax on it Regarding the Oil Plan, Twarath Sutabutr, Director of the Energy Policy and Planning Office, said the privileges for natural gas used for transport would continue and include the retail price that was below its cost, sporadic subsidies and excise tax exemption. Such privileges were also available for ethanol, biodiesel and compressed biomethane gas that were categorized as renewable energy while oil and liquefied petroleum gas did not enjoy the privileges, he said. The privileges were aimed at promoting the consumption of local energy and they would be reviewed only if their factors changed significantly, Mr Twarath said. “The Energy Ministry assures the users of NGVs in the transport sector that excise tax will not be imposed in order to promote the consumption of the alternative energy that is clean and has limited impacts on the environment,” Mr Twarath said.
