Malaysia's Mobile Water Purification System Wins Gold Award At ICQ 2014

SHAH ALAM (Selangor, Malaysia), Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The mobile water purification system developed through a joint venture between an investment holding company, Puncak Niaga Holding Berhad (PNHB) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) won the Gold Award at the International Conference on Quality 2014 (ICQ 2014) in Tokyo recently. PNHB Public Relations Department Executive Director Prof Dr Mohd Zainul Fithri Othman said said the system called Jernih (the acronym for Jointly Developed, Efficient, Robust, Novel, Innovative & Handy) was a field water purification system which was practical and efficient and could treat high turbidity water. "The do-it-yourself (DIY) product is suitable for use in humanitarian assistance and emergency relief missions. "This invention could also help communities living in places where clean water is difficult to get or in places where there is turmoil caused by warfare, earthquakes, strife and other disasters," he said in a statement. It is also a sophisticated product that is the result of joint efforts from both sides which is innovative, dedicated and professional, he said. He added that Jernih beat 52 other groups from Asia to win the award. The four-day conference which ended Wednesday was aimed at providing an opportunity for participants from Asian and Pacific region nations to share information and exchange ideas as well as showcase innovative ideas which are practical and suitable to current markets. --BERNAMA
