Thai Far South economy stimulated by people's state policy

BANGKOK, June 8 (TNA) - The Thai government has expedited measures, based on the people's state policy and the security, wealth and sustainability triangle model, to accelerate economic development and growth in the country's troubled Far South. Supanat Sirantawineti, Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC), led his SBPAC team and representatives of all sectors in the Thai Deep South to discuss progressive results of the government's measures having been implemented concretely in the violence-plagued southernmost Thai region so far at Bangkok's Government House on Friday. Supanat then told journalists that the government's proactive measures have been observed to have resulted in the improving social, economic and tourism sectors in the southern border region, seen by rising produce with more value-added, as well as the declining unemployment and violent cases lately. The SBPAC chief pointed out that the number of tourist arrivals in the Thai Far South in 2017 alone reached about 1.53 million, higher than several previous years, earning the southern border region about 6.43 billion baht tourism-related revenues. Besides, the local farm sector has been considerably developed, including, for instance, the promotion of processed rubber products and more crops grown in the rubber plantations, the comprehensive development of local oil palm production sector to enhance its efficiency, the expansion of local livestock sector and the establishment of local fishery clubs to boost their production, marketing and personnel capacity, as well as revenues. On the occasion, representatives of the local fishery clubs extended their thankfulness to the government, saying that the official measures having been implemented through SBPAC have raised the quality of life of people in the Thai Far South and stimulated the local economy, resulting in reduced violent unrest cases in the insurgency-plagued Deep South.
