MONGOLIANS IN RUSSIA CELEBRATE NAADAM

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Embassy of Mongolia in the Russian Federation organized in Moscow a mini Naadam festival among Mongolians on July 12. The feature of the events was that fraternities of Russian Buryatia, Kalmykia and Tuva were invited. The "Ancient traditions of steppe people and samples of intangible cultural heritage of humankind" action gathered also members of Russia’s Federal Council and the State Duma and diplomats of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Russia Mr Sh.Altangerel made the opening remarks. The festival propagandized Mongolian cultural heritage such as Naadam, long-song, khoomii, national wrestling and Mongolian ger (national dwelling). In addition, a national wrestling tournament ran among 12 wrestlers, a winner of which became S.Purev-Ochir from Mongolia. A small concert was staged by O.Ankhchimeg, a singer at the “Ulaanbaatar” ensemble, and by I.Terbish, a Morin Khuur player and khoomii singer. The Buryat and Kalmyk guests performed their national songs and dances. A coach and master of sports archer Bayar Gyninov showed his skills at shooting. All the guests were offered Mongolian dairy products, airag (kumys), milk tea, national cuisine such as buuz, khuushuur and khorkhog. Diplomats of our Embassy and other Mongolians demonstrated how to assemble Mongolian ger and granted it to the Moscow-based Kalmyk fraternity.
