Thailand provides BCG vaccine for UNICEF

BANGKOK, October 6 (TNA) - Thailand's Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute (QSMI) has produced enough BCG vaccine for newborns to be provided for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). QSMI Deputy Director Professor Sumana Khomvilai announced on Tuesday that QSMI, under the Thai Red Cross Society, is now able to produce, with the international standard, a large quantity of the BCG vaccine, needed for infants, to be sold to UNICEF. Professor Sumana said that the BCG vaccine is needed for worldwide newborns at about 150,000 doses annually. Besides, QSMI is also now able to produce rabies immunisation and snake antivenin serum at the highest quantity in East Asia. Meanwhile, QSMI hosts the 16th Annual General Meeting of the Developing Countries Vaccine Manufacturers Network (DCVMN) in Bangkok during October 5-7, 2015. Delivering a speech at the 16th DCVMN forum, the QSMI deputy chief acknowledged that DCVMN annual meetings have been held since 2000, aimed to promote and support the development and production of quality vaccines at fair prices to serve both domestic and global demands.
