Addressing Korean Peninsula problem in non-diplomatic way may lead to disaster - Kremlin

MOSCOW, September 22. /TASS/. The Kremlin sees no alternative to tackling the Korean Peninsula problem in a political and diplomatic way. Any other approach may lead to a disaster. "Moscow is still convinced in the absence of alternative to political and diplomatic settlement of the North Korean issue. No other solution is possible," Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters. "Any other ways to address this issue may have undesirable and even disastrous consequences." The Kremlin is concerned about the situation "regarding rather rude statements full of threats," he said. "Moscow still calls on all interested parties to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation," Peskov stressed. The current situation on the Korean Peninsula remains rather tense due to active development of a nuclear missile program by Pyongyang. In July, North Korea carried out two ballistic missile tests. On August 29 and September 15, it launched two more missiles that flew over Japan and on September 3 it declared it had successfully tested a hydrogen bomb that could be loaded on to a long-range missile.
