Gen Prawit to attend ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting

BANGKOK, Oct 15 (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon will attend the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) in Singapore on Oct 18-20. Defence Ministry’s spokesman Kongcheep Tantrawanich said Gen Prawit and the permanent secretary for defence would attend the 12th ADMM and the 5th ADMM-Plus Meeting. On the occasion, ASEAN defence ministers would discuss the promotion of cooperation and ASEAN’s strength before meeting counterparts from 8 dialogue partners. Then there would be a ceremony to hand the chairmanship of ADMM and ADMM-Plus from Singapore to Thailand that will assume the ASEAN chairmanship next year. The spokesman of the Defence Ministry said Gen Prawit would also have bilateral talks with United States Secretary of Defense James Mattis, New Zealand Defence Minister Ron Mark and Singaporean Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen to boost military ties.
