Iran Envoy, UN Official Confer In Damascus

Damascus, Sept 26, IRNA – Iran Ambassador to Syria Mohammad Reza Raoof Sheybani in a meeting with head of office of Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN special envoy in Syria Affairs, Mokhtar Lamani expounded on Iran’s viewpoints concerning settlement of current crisis in the country. After meeting with Lamani in the venue of Iran’s embassy in Damascus on Tuesday evening, Sheybani told IRNA that in addition to expressing Tehran’s viewpoints, they discussed and exchanged views on Syrian situation and crisis. He added that Iran’s viewpoints in direction of helping Lakhdar Brahimi to succeed in his mission was transferred to head of his office. Lamani, for his part, explained current situation in Syria and Iran’s role in solving the crisis and called for Tehran support for the UN mission to solve Syrian crisis. He underlined that Iran has an important role and position in the region and could have an important role in settling Syrian crisis. Following resignation of Kofi Annan, former special envoy of the UN secretary general in Syrian Affairs, Lakhdar Brahimi started his work on September 1, 2012. During his visit to Syria on September 15, Brahimi introduced Mokhtar Lamani, a Moroccan diplomat, as head of his office in Damascus./end
