Kazakhstan ratifies treaty on Armenia joining Eurasian Economic Union

ASTANA, December 24. /TASS/. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed the parliament-endorsed law ratifying the treaty on Armenia joining the Eurasian Economic Union, the Kazakh presidential press service reported on Wednesday. “The head of state has signed Kazakh law ratifying the treaty on Armenia joining the accord establishing the Eurasian Economic Union singed on May 29, 2014,” the statement for media said. Republican trade with Armenia makes around $7.7 million, Kazakh Minister of National Economy Yerbolat Dosayev said earlier. Meanwhile, the two countries have prospects for broader bilateral partnership in metallurgy, agriculture and construction. Meanwhile, Nazarbayev has signed the parliament-approved law ratifying the treaty on termination of the Eurasian Economic Community EurAsEC activity, the presidential press service said on Wednesday. Presenting this document for consideration of deputies, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov recalled that the heads of the EurAsEC states agreed to dissolve the community at a meeting in Belarusian capital Minsk in October. “First, the reason for this step is that EurAsEC fulfilled its historical role. The Customs Union [Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan], the Common Economic Space and the Eurasian Economic Union were set up within this community. Secondly, existence of two organisations duplicating functions of each other in the common space is needless,” he said. Read more
