Moscow, Beijing share stance on Korean Peninsula crisis - Chinese diplomat

BEIJING, August 30. /TASS/. Major goals of Russia and China in settling the Korean Peninsula crisis largely coincide, China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying told reporters on Wednesday. "Russia and China have an all-encompassing strategic partnership," the diplomat said. "The major goal in the Korean Peninsula issue is its denuclearization." As for the solution, there are "some differences, but the key goals coincide." The diplomat said Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to exchange views on the situation in the region with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the upcoming BRICS summit. The summit of the informal association, bringing together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, will take place in China’s Xiamen on September 3-5. Apart from the group’s members, five more countries will also take part in the event - Egypt, Mexico, Guinea, Tajikistan and Thailand. Early on Tuesday, the Japanese government reported a launch of a North Korean missile that flew above northeast Japan. According to Japan’s Chief Cabinet Minister Yoshihide Suga, it must have fallen into the Pacific Ocean 1,180 km east of Cape Erimo, Hokkaido.
