S.Leader : Next President Must Exercise Prudence And Abide By Law

Tehran, May 7, IRNA - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the next president must exercise prudence and abide by law and the values of the Islamic Revolution. The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with a group of officials in charge of organizing the 11th presidential election slated for June 14. The Supreme Leader called for maximum turnout in the presidential election and said that presence of the people in the upcoming presidential elections will make the country immune from hostile approach of the enemies. Election is a big, national and Islamic blessing, said the Supreme Leader adding that the Guardian Council along with other executive bodies should help create a sound and healthy atmosphere to arrange the democratic process. Elections play a very vital role in the countryˈs administrative system, said Ayatollah Khamenei. Presence of people in all elections in the past 34 years helped protect the country from many mishaps and have served to boost the spirit of the nation and the Islamic Revolution, said Ayatollah Khamenei. Formation of municipal councils in all villages and cities is manifestation of peopleˈs will and their decision to share administering the countryˈs affairs, said the Supreme Leader adding that all should be watchful that the importance of presidential elections must not undermine role of municipal elections. The Supreme Leader said in the meantime that the presidential elections are of prime importance in the Constitution the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Supreme Leader cautioned the people against the conspiracy to downgrade the upcoming presidential election and said that the enemies have attempted to disappoint people as they know that people help materialize aspiration of the Islamic Revolution. The Supreme Leader advised officials in charge of upcoming presidential elections campaign to honor law in carrying out their duties. Referring to the bitter incident of desecrating the tomb of Hojr ibn Adi al-Uday Kindi a companion of Great Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and supporter of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the Supreme Leader said world Muslims mainly the intellectuals, scientists, politicians and religious people should take action to condemn such heinous acts. On reaction of the Shia Muslim community to the desecration of Islamic sanctities, the Supreme Leader said the Shia Muslims must not fall into the trap aiming to escalate sectarian conflict and once again they proved their rationality to this end. World Muslims should continue with condemnation and if the Ulema and intellectuals of the Islamic Ummah ignore their duties, these sedition will go beyond control. International organizations and individuals and politicians who make hue and cry for destruction of a historical monuments have kept mum toward the blasphemy, said the Supreme Leader. The Supreme Leader said that enemies of the Muslims should know that such conspiracies can not harm unity of world Muslims./end
