U.S. Department of State’s statements on Azerbaijan are groundless and unacceptable, Foreign Ministry

Baku, August 29 (AzerTAc). The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has made a statement calling the U.S Department of State's recent statements related to the country groundless and unacceptable. “Such statements, which have a political implication and are aimed at interfering in Azerbaijan's internal affairs to exert political pressure on the country, do not reflect reality. Supremacy of law, the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms and independence of judicial system are fully ensured in Azerbaijan,” the statement says. “Instead of looking for problems in other countries, the U.S. must resolve many problems in the field of human rights in their own country.” “The events in Ferguson, Missouri, demonstrated once again that having turned human rights into an instrument of its foreign policy, the U.S. is far from complying with the obligations on fundamental human rights and freedoms, including freedom of assembly, preventing separation by ethnic and racial factors, disproportionate use of force by law enforcement agencies and excessive violence,” the document says.
