Zionist Regime’s Nuclear Warheads, Biggest Threat To Region : Iran Envoy

New York, Oct 4, IRNA – Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations said wednesday unlike what was said by Canadian foreign minister, it was the Zionist regime’s nuclear warheads which threatened regional peace and stability. . In his speech to the 67th UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister of Canada John Baird referred to Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities as a source of threat and instability in the region. The extremist government of Canada has recently closed down its embassy in Tehran under unfounded excuses. Reacting to Baird's remarks, Iran's Permanent Mission to the UN released a statement criticizing West for its antagonistic and double-standard policies towards the issue of nuclear activities of different nations. The statement, which was read out in General Assembly, underlined that like other signatories of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran was entitled to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. It reiterated Iran's determination to defend its nuclear rights and reaffirmed its commitment to its all obligations within the framework of NPT. The statement further noted that Iran's nuclear sites were always open for inspections and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had, on several occasions, verified non-diversion of Iran’s nuclear program. The statement described such allegations as baseless and politically-motivated. Condemning the western states’ deadly silence against the Zionist regime’s nuclear weapons, the statement also said that the only source of instability and insecurity in the Middle East and beyond that was the Zionist regime with its over 200 nuclear warheads. As for Iran's nuclear talks with the western states, the statement voiced Tehran's readiness to hold a serious and constructive talks based on mutual respect and with no preconditions. It reiterated that Tehran would never compromise over its undeniable right to nuclear energy./end
