Millenium Racing Roars Into The Lead On Second Day Of RLIR 2016

LANGKAWI (Kedah, Malaysia), Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Six times Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) winning skipper Ray Roberts showed why he is among the most revered sailors by guiding Millennium Racing from Australia into the lead on the second day of the RLIR 2016, here Wednesday. The team, skippered by the experienced Roberts who has led his team to six consecutive victories from 2006 to 2011, seems to have set his sights firmly on his seventh win, here. "Though looking for my seventh title here, we are going to take one race at a time. This is because the gap between us and our challengers is close," he told reporters at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, Wednesday. Roberts said competition this year was very stiff and a small mistake might result in missing out on a chance to win the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy. "It is very exciting to sail in Langkawi and the wind here is difficult to predict because we have to concentrate on our opponents as well change tactics to match the wind conditions," he said. After the completion of four of the 10 races scheduled for the competition, Millennium Racing accumulated nine points to edge overnight leader Team Alive (Australia) by a single point. Defending champion Team Oi! from Australia, skippered by Peter Ahern are third with 11 penalty points while Malaysia's sole representative in the Racing Class, Ulumulu, are in fourth place on 13 points. Roberts has won six RLIR titles consecutively from 2006 to 2011 with Quantum Racing and Evolution Racing. Thursday, sailors from the 37 participating teams that compete in eight categories and class will set sail for the 'round the island' competition. (photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
