Bahrain takes part in ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024

New York, Apr. 17 (BNA): Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Youth Affairs Minister, has participated in the opening session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)’s 2024 Youth Forum, held at the UN headquarters in New York.

 

Ambassador Jamal Al Rowaiei, the kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Sarah Janahi, Chief of Awards and Competitions at the Youth Affairs Ministry, attended the forum, themed “Working with and for Young People”.

 

António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, addressed the session. He stressed the importance of the role played by youth in the development process, thanks to their innovations and ideas that contribute to achieving prosperity for their countries.

 

The opening session also featured a statement by Sarah Baharaki, Global Youth Ambassador, and Representative of the Major Group on Children and Youth (MGCY), in addition to a musical show by a Chilean group.

 

Paula Narváez Ojeda, ECOSOC President, also delivered a statement in which she highlighted the current challenges facing young people and the necessity of uniting global efforts to empower youth, listen to their voices, and develop their skills.

 

The opening session was followed by the first plenary session on “Youth for Solutions and Innovation”, which provided an opportunity for the world’s young people to leverage their experiences, expertise and creative approaches to accelerate the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

 

Speakers proposed solutions to support youth in overcoming the significant challenges they face.
