Appeal Court revokes arrest warrant for ex-DSI chief

AYUDHYA, June 12 (TNA) – The Appeal Court in this central province on Thursday revoked an arrest warrant issued for Sunai Manomai-udom, secretary-general of the Office for Prevention and Suppression of Corruption by Government Officials.
Police had earlier issued the arrest warrant with the Lower Court's approval against Mr. Sunai for his failure to report to acknowledge a defamation charge filed by former prime minister Thaksin Shinwatra's lawyers.
He was accused of defaming the ex-premier while holding the top post of the Department of Special Investigation.
Previously, Mr. Sunai's lawyer had sought a Lower Court order to withdraw the arrest warrant, but failed to get that.
So, the lawyer petitioned with the Appeal Court, citing Mr. Sunai is a person who comtribute himself for the interest of the country and so has no reason to escape out of the country.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sunai pledged his innocence in the case and vowed to continue fighting against what he called an "illegitimate action" to the end.
At a press conference held later Thursday afternoon to clarify the allegations, Mr. Sunai said that he did not report to the police
immediatety after the arrest warrant was issued because he believed that the warrant was not issued properly.
