Kuryk port is becoming an important part of the transport corridors passing through the Caspian Sea. Its capacity is growing, as is the flow of cargo along the East-West corridor. This certainly impacts the transit traffic between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. In 10 months of 2017, the volume of cargo between the two countries increased by 2.5 times and exceeded one and a half million tonnes. According to observers, the development of transport logistics is a good alternative to primary sectors of the economy of both countries.

AIDYN GUSEINOV, MEMBER OF MILLI MAJLIS OF AZERBAIJAN:
- Both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are aimed at developing the non-oil sector of their economies. Undoubtedly, the transport routes, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the ports of both countries in the Caspian Sea became an additional impetus to the development of economic relations between the two countries. The advantage of the Kuryk port is its geographic location.

The new automobile pier in the port of Kuryk will allow transportation of additional 2 million tonnes of cargo per year. Participants of the trans-Caspian transport route intend to increase the freight flow fivefold by 2020.

AIDYN GUSEINOV, MEMBER OF MILLI MAJLIS OF AZERBAIJAN:
- As you know, the first cargoes through the Kuryk port have been sent from Kazakhstan to Turkey. All this shows that Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are starting a new stage of economic relations. In the future, both Kazakhstani and Azerbaijani ports will turn into large transport and logistics centers on the way from East to West. These factors will bring big dividends to the economies of both countries.

The Aktau, the Kuryk and the Baku Alyat have already become key links in the large transport chain between East and West. Thus, the capacity of cargo handling in the port of Aktau reached 20 million tonnes, and in Kuryk - 6 million tonnes per year. Azerbaijan is expanding its Alyat. Works in this port are planned to be completed in the first half of 2018.
