The opening ceremony for the National day of the Mongolian Script and Culture held on May 2, 2013 at the National Public Library.
The festival has been organized for the 9th times since the first Sunday of May is declared as the “Day of National Script and Culture” in accordance with 2003 order of the President of Mongolia.
An introduction of national written heritage “Golden fund of sutra-scriptures” was held and alphabet exhibition “Mongolian script full in reminiscenes” was displayed during the opening ceremony. Also, the writers and creative workers handed over the manuscripts of their best works to the library authorities and concluded the contracts with them.
This year’s National day of the Mongolian Script and Culture entitled “Respect the National Script and Culture” organized by the Ministry for Culture, Sport and Tourism and the National Public Library in collaboration with the Higher education institutions and public organizations and NGOs is taking place between April 20 and May 7.
Mongolians have the ancient history and tradition of its script and culture. Mongolian script is only one the World with its vertical form of writing. This vertical script of the nomads is one of few writings registered with UNESCO culture heritage. The measures called “Day of National Script and Culture” is one of examples of that the Mongolians are paying a great attention to distributing and passing down to the future generation this unique writing culture.
