At the Women’s Leadership international forum that took place in Ulaanbaatar on June 25, Speaker of the State Great Khural G.Zandanshatar gave opening remarks. Representatives of 21 aimags and the capital’s 9 districts as well as delegates from other countries attended the forum.
In partnership with the Secretariat of Parliament and with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, UNDP Mongolia has been successfully implementing a project ‘Strengthening Representative Bodies in Mongolia’ for over two years, involving over 2,000 women who work in Citizens’ Representative Khurals of aimags, soums, districts and the capital in the workshops on leadership. The project has produced numerous good outcomes that the women who were involved in the project made great efforts to find solutions to their local pressing issues, resulting in positive changes in citizens’ lives. Thus, the Women’s Leadership forum was organized in aims of introducing the experience and sharing it with the public.
The forum’s honored guest, President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation Marina Carobbio Guscetti said, “Giving women the equal rights to be voted and work is a fundamental principle of democracy as well as a way of ensuring fair representation in the society. Representative democracy supports pluralism, involving representatives with genders, age, regions and professional differences.”
Guests and representatives attending the forum highlighted that the forum will contribute to promote the achievements of local female politicians, share experiences, unite their voices and spread the creative way of working nationwide by getting inspired from great experiences.
