The UN Security Council members are focusing their attention on Africa. Achievement of peace and security in Africa is one of the seven priorities identified in President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s political address to the members of the UN Security Council. Africa is one of the most unstable regions in the world, where military conflicts are ongoing for many years. In 2017, Ethiopia became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UNб Tekeda Alemu highlighted the main items on the Security Council’s agenda and noted Kazakhstan’s role in the world.
TEKEDA ALEMU, ETHIOPIA’S PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO UNITED NATIONS:
- We’ve been focusing on all conflict situations in Africa. As you know, the Security Council devotes more than fifty percent of its time discussing African security issues, to the conflict situation in South Sudan, Somalia, Mali, the Central African Republic, the DRC, Burundi. His excellency, the president has been contributing to peace and stability in the region. We also look forward to the Security Council mission to Afghanistan, to which Kazakhstan has been giving a lot of attention.
