11 Companies Owned By Women Generate RM132.33 Mln In Exports Last Year

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- Eleven companies owned by women entrepreneurs, who participated in the Women Exporters Development Programme organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), had generated RM132.33 million (US$29.83 million) in exports last year. The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said a majority of the companies were in the food and beverage, lifestyle and information, communication and technology sectors. "Between 2004 and 2016, the programme had assisted 120 women-owned companies which managed to penetrate various international markets," the agency said in a statement. As of March 2017, there were about 19,000 Malaysian companiesd registered with MATRADE. "From this amount, 14 per cent were companies owned by women exporters," the statement added.
