Bilateral Trade Expansions Still Ongoing Despite Political Unrest In Thailand

By Minggu Simon Lhasa BANGKOK, April 24 (Bernama) -- Efforts to increase bilateral trade between Malaysia and Thailand is still ongoing despite the current political unrest in Thailand making it difficult for the business community to make business-related decisions. The Economic Affairs Advisor at the Malaysian High Commission in Bangkok Fary Akmal said that working visits to Malaysia would be organised on a more frequent basis to reduce the impact of the political turmoil on bilateral trade of both countries. Focus would be on increasing investment and trade in border towns and the northern and eastern states of Peninsular Malaysia, he said when met at the Malaysia-Thailand Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) dinner Wednesday night. He said recently, 30 Thai entrepreneurs participated in a working visit to Kuala Lumpur organised by the Malaysian High Commission and MTCC with the cooperation of the Thailand-Malaysia Business Council (TMBC), to identify investment and cooperation opportunities in Malaysia. During the programme, investors from Thailand held meetings and dialogues with International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed and also with the Malaysia Investment Development Authority, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, SME Corp and the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister's Department. On the uncertainty in Bangkok, the Malaysian High Commission with the Malaysia-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) are also conducting continuous meetings with the Malaysian business community to discuss ways to address the impact on business transactions following the political unrest. -- BERNAMA
