British Airways Launches Loyalty Programme For SMEs In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- British Airways is confident that its newly-launched 'On Business' loyalty programme targeted at small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) will be successful in Malaysia. Head of Asia-Pacific Sales, Robert Williams said Malaysia is the ninth country in the region to activate the programme, which has proven to be very popular among SMEs in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand. "The launch of the programme here demonstrates our commitment towards Malaysia and we believe SMEs will benefit greatly from this as it has already helped companies worldwide save £47 million in travel expenses last year," he told a press conference after the launch here Thursday. The programme will bring together loyalty programmes of three airlines -- British Airways, Iberia and American Airlines -- allowing business travellers to collect points and spend on all partnered airlines under one scheme. He said members will be rewarded for the money spent rather than distance travelled or number of flights flown, making it easier for companies to manage their budget to meet their travel needs. The programme is a three-tier system, with every US$1 spent warranting one point for the first tier, and 1.25 points and 1.5 points for the second and third tiers respectively. Williams said to be eligible, members must be registered companies, with no limitations on the number of employees and financial performance. He said new members from Malaysia could enjoy a welcome bonus of triple On Business Points on the first six eligible flights within the first 12 months of a new membership. "Another attractive advantage is members who purchase three business class tickets to London will get a free economy ticket on the same route," he added. -- BERNAMA
