Don Mueang Int'l Airport to serve over 1.5m passengers during New Year celebrations

BANGKOK, December 26 (TNA) - Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport is likely to cater for over 1.50 million international passengers, or over 125,000 daily, during this ongoing New Year celebrations. Don Mueang International Airport Director Sirot Duangrat voiced the assessment while opening the airport's adhoc passenger facilitation center, set to operate during December 25, 2018-January 7, 2019, saying that the targeted number of international passengers using the Don Mueang International Airport should be about a 9.27 per cent year-on-year increase. Sirot estimated that most of the passengers, or over 875,000, should be those of domestic flights, while the rest should be those of international flights, a 1.29 per cent year-on-year increase and a 22.63 per cent year-on-year increase respectively. Sirot stated that there are a total of 9,447 flights approved for their operations during the two week-period, or 787 flights a day, a 5.25 per cent year-on-year increase, most of which are domestic flights and the rest 3,613 are international flights. Apart from opening the adhoc passenger facilitation center, Sirot revealed that more workers and trolleys have also been provided to serve the rising number of international passengers around the clock during the ongoing New Year celebrations. According to the director, heightened security measures have also been put in good place, including more frequent patrol services by security officers, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) experts and police dogs (K9), along with the more systematic queue-service for taxis legally-licensed to serve the airport's passengers.
