Economy Minister Due In Washington To Attend WB, IMF Meetings

Tehran, Oct 8, IRNA – Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyeb-Nia will leave here for Washington, US, Tuesday evening to attend the annual meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). On Monday, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Valliollah Seif also departed to Washington to take part in the same event. The Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) each year bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness. This years Annual Meetings events will take place in Washington on October 11-13. The event will provide an opportunity for economic officials to exchange views on promoting economic and banking cooperation. The World Bank is an international financial institution that provides loans to developing countries for development projects. Its official goal is to reduce poverty. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an intergovernmental organization that oversees the global financial system by taking part in the macroeconomic policies of its established members, in particular those with an impact on exchange rate and the balance of payments./end
