EGAT to give "Label No 5" for energy saving shirts

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) -- The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is ready to present the energy efficient Lable No 5 for energy saving shirts, as the weather is expected to be hottest in several year. Director for Demand Side Management Office Satit Sukanan said EGAT is set to present the label No 5 for two more products, including shirts and twin washers washing machines, a policy by EGAT to promote and instill consciousness on production of goods which could continuously save energy. He said the Label No 5 project has been running for the past 24 years, where the No 5 labels have been stamped on 28 products of the highest energy efficiency rating which they could help save up to 4,000 megawatts of electricity without the need to construct a new power plant, accounting up to 120 billion baht. He noted that the Lable No 5 shirt is a policy initiated by EGAT Governor Kornsit Pakchotanon, with an aim to encourage the public to help save energy, while EGAT would help ensure sustainable energy production and consumption. Mr Satit said that 10 textile companies have already expressed interests in the project, where EGAT has planned to carry out a Label No 5 Shirt Contest, where shirts are encouraged to be require less ironing to help preserve energy.
