EGAT researchers win 4 awards in Switzerland

BANGKOK, April 15 (TNA) -- Researchers and inventors from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) won awards in Switzerland for the fourth year in a row, receiving four awards this year. EGAT governor Kornrasit Pakchotanon said his organization won four awards for its research, invention and innovation in the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva set from March 29 to April 2. EGAT researchers and inventors were among the Thai researchers and inventors that the National Research Council of Thailand brought to the exhibition. They presented about 90 entries in the exhibition where 725 entries from around the world were put up for contests. EGAT won a gold medal and a special prize from China for its improvement of a coal-burning process at its Mae Moh power plant while maintaining the generating capacity of the plant. Besides, the state enterprise won two silver medals. One resulted from its Fully Redundancy EGAT – AVR project which helped it save 174 million baht by reducing the import of equipment. The other silver medal came from a heat-treatment project to modify steam turbine rotors in order to boost security and cut waste in power generation. EGAT has joined contests in the exhibition in Geneva since 2013 and always won prizes. It has received 15 prizes consisting of two gold medals, five silver medals, three bronze medals and five special prizes. Its award-winning projects included the improvement of a coal conveyor belt system at the Mae Moh power plant. “EGAT seriously supports its employees in developing inventions and innovations which have won international awards. Its innovations and inventions help secure national power, cut national expenditure and also build good reputations for Thailand. EGAT will continue to produce more researchers and inventors and support them in global arenas,” the EGAT governor said. (TNA)
