Fraudulent cooking gas plant raided

KANCHABURI, March 1 (TNA) - Officials of the Department of Internal Trade raided a fraudulent cooking gas factory in Kanchanaburi province after complaints of cheats. Boonyarit Kalayanamit, director-general of the department, said the department had received many complaints about irregularities found in the weight of cooking gas cylinders from a retail plant in Kanchanaburi. Inspectors checked the premise in Muang Kanchanaburi district on Feb 20 and found that 33 out of 38 cylinders were about one kilogram short of their standard weight. The operator of the plant was then brought to the Muang Kanchanaburi police station for legal action. Mr Boonyarit said he ordered the measurement officials of his department to check cooking gas retailers nationwide to protect consumers. He said that his department received complaints on such issues through its hotline number 1569 and its branches of weights and measures. (TNA)
