Garuda Indonesia - Myanmar Airways Sign Code-Share Agreement

Tangerang, Banten, Nov 25 (Antara) - National flag carriers Garuda Indonesia and Myanmar Airways have agreed to share their flight codes in a bid to improve the connectivity between Indonesia and Myanmar. Garuda Indonesia`s Marketing Director Erik Meijer and Myanmar Airways Managing director Si Thu signed the agreement in this regard at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten province, on Tuesday. Garuda Indonesia`s CEO Emirsyah Satar, Indonesian Ambassador to Myanmar Ito Sumardi, and Myanmar`s Ambassador to Indonesia U Min Lwin were also present on the occasion. Emirsyah Satar remarked that the code-share agreement will enable the passengers of Garuda Indonesia to take Myanmar Airways` international routes, namely from Bangkok (Thailand) to Yangon (Myanmar) and from Singapore to Yangon back and forth. Likewise, the passengers of Myanmar Airways will be able to take the Jakarta-Bangkok and Jakarta-Singapore routes back and forth. "This agreement will ease off passenger traffic from Jakarta to Yangon, and vice versa, via Singapore or Bangkok," Emirsyah pointed out. Stating that Myanmar was one of the potential markets for Garuda Indonesia, he expressed hope that the code-sharing agreement between Garuda Indonesia and Myanmar Airways will increase the number of passengers traveling to and from the two countries. Meanwhile, International Managing Director of Myanmar Airways Shi Tu commented that the agreement will increase the number of flights from Myanmar to Indonesia, and vice versa. "With an average of 55,000 people traveling from Myanmar to Indonesia, and vice versa, for business or tourism, Indonesia is an important market for us," Shi reflected. According to him, the code-sharing agreement between Garuda Indonesia and Myanmar Airways will offer more options and flexibility to passengers flying from Myanmar to Indonesia, and vice versa.
