Halal Industry Players Eyeing Emerging Marts In Central Asia

By Ahmad Syamil Mohd Ashri KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- The halal industries in Russia and its neighbouring countries are burgeoning amid the sluggish global economy and industry players are eyeing the emerging markets in Central Asia. Moscow Halal Expo Chief Executive Officer, Kirill Skogorev, said Russia has seen some 10 per cent sales growth in the halal sector each year. "Russia has a 20 per cent Muslim population from 146 million and the need for halal products is big. "Halal industry players need to look at the potential market that lies within the Commonwealth of Independent States, which has 300 million Muslim population," he told Bernama after signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Silver Plus Manufacturing (Thailand) Co Ltd here Friday. Chief Executive Officer of Silver Plus Thailand, Man Petchvanichsakul, and Skogorev signed the MOU at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase 2017. The agreement was to have at least 250 Thai-based halal-certified companies showcase their products and services at the Moscow Halal Expo this November. Skogorev said the exhibition aimed to have 80 per cent participation of small and medium enterprises and 20 per cent display of of premium products. -- BERNAMA
