Increasing Investment From Japan Proves Malaysian Economy Is Stable - MIDA
PORT KLANG (Selangor, Malaysia), July 14 (Bernama) -- Increasing inflow of investments from Japan not only proves that the Malaysian economy is still stable but also the choice destination for long-term investors, despite the uncertain global financial situation.
Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) Chief Executive Officer Azman Mahmud said Japan was the fourth largest investor in the country in 2016, with investments in various sectors, including 53 manufacturing projects worth US$442.62 million (RM1.9 billion).
These investments are expected to generate some 4,390 jobs for the local community, he told reporters at the launch of MI Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MIS), the global operations hub for the world renown electronic musical instruments manufacturer, Roland Corporation.
He also said the long-term investments in high-end quality projects by Japanese companies would provide added value to the development of the industrial sector.
Some of the top Japanese companies that were major investors in the country included UMW Toyota, Rohm-Wako Electronic, Sagami Manufacturing, Rikevita, Nippon Electric Glass, Cosmo Scientex and Polyplastics Asia Pacific.
“Japan has always considered Malaysia as an important destination for their investments. As such, we are conducting annual trade and investment missions to Japan to meet companies that are interested in investing in Malaysia and keeping them abreast of the investment climate here.
“MIDA aims to mount five special missions to Japan this year to attract more investments from the Land of the Rising Sun to the machinery, clinical, electronic and life sciences sectors,” he added.
Roland Corporation invested US$60 million in making MIS, which is located in Bandar Sultan Sulaiman, as its second headquarters. The company would be fully operational in January 2018.
Roland Group Chief Executive Officer Jun-ichi Miki said the proficiency of English among Malaysians was the main factor that convinced the company to enhance its investment in the country.
MIS is an extension of Roland Manufacturing Malaysia Sdn Bhd which has been operating since July 2015.
