India Expects RI To Increase Chemical Imports

Jakarta, Jan 21 (ANTARA) - An Indian chemical producer has urged Indonesia to increase its import of chemical products from India in order to enhance bilateral cooperation. Chemexcil director Satish Wagh expressed hope during a promotional event, called "Chemical Buyer Seller Meet", here on Monday that the two countries would increase cooperation in the chemicals sector. The event, which was held in cooperation with the Indonesian Chemical Industry Federation (FIKI) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), was attended by the Indian ambassador to Indonesia Gurjit Singh. Indonesia is the second-largest importer of Indian chemical products, after Singapore, in the ASEAN region. ASEAN consists of 10 member countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. According to Chemexcil data, the company exported chemical products worth a total of US$873.5 million to Indonesia in 2012, up from the previous years US$580.7 million. "We hope Indonesia will increase its chemical imports from India," Wagh said. "Our bilateral cooperation and trade has been hampered by a lack of communication," he added.
