Innovative rice products to be showcased at TRC 2017

BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) - The government, through the Ministry of Commerce, will host an international rice convention, Thailand Rice Convention 2017 (TRC 2017), in Bangkok late this month, during which Thai innovative rice products will be showcased in line with the Thailand 4.0 policy. Duangporn Rodphaya, Director-General of the ministry's Department of Foreign Trade, told journalists on May 3 that TRC 2017, themed "Thai rice:a new stride with innovations, will be organized at the Centara Grand Hotel and the Bangkok Convention Center in Central World shopping complex in the capital during May 28-30, in which more than 1,000 representatives of relevant Thai and foreign public and private firms and agencies are welcome to participate, along with a number of general public. Besides, government representatives from major rice importing countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Iraq and Iran, have been invited to participate in the three-day event. Duangporn said that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha will inaugurate the TRC 2017 and deliver a keynote speech on "Thailand's rice trade and future trend" to brief on the his government's policy on the Thai rice industry. "Apart from showcasing value-added Thai processed rice products, the upcoming grand event will also display the Thai Kingdom's potential as a leading world producer and trader of quality grains with various high-end, nutrition-rich strains", the senior official revealed. According to the senior official, other key activities to be organized as part of the TRC 2017 include seminars on future trend of world rice trade and on innovative Thai rice products, as well as the "Rice Plus" exhibition, in which royal projects in honor of late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun will be on display, along with exhibitions on the development of Thai rice and rice products, covering healthy rice food and non-food products, namely cosmetics, medicines and medical items.
