Iran to host 24th WWER Regulators Forum in Isfahan

TEHRAN, May 02 (MNA) – The central Iranian city Isfahan will host the 24th annual meeting of the Forum of the State Nuclear Safety Authorities of the Countries Operating WWER Type Reactors.
Taking place on May 2 and 3, the event will host 12 member states, as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) representative during the two-day meeting.
The member states of the Forum include Iran, Armenia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, China, Finland, Hungary, India, Russia, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
This is the first time that Iran’s nuclear safety center is hosting the event.
The Forum was established in 1993 in a bid to foster the enhancement of nuclear safety and radiation protection through the utilization of the collective experience, information exchange, and consolidation of efforts of the national nuclear safety authorities.
The Forum holds periodic and annual meetings hosted by its member states having one of WWER Type Reactors. The Water-Water Energetic Reactor (WWER) is a series of pressurized water reactor designs with a power output ranging from 70 to 1,200 megawatt electrical.
The holding of meeting in Iran for the first time and with the participation of the largest number of member states, indicates a shift of approach of nuclear states towards Iran and a move which promises a bright future in various fields of cooperation, especially in nuclear safety.
