Keep Pace With Industry 4.0, Companies Urged

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Companies in Malaysia need to keep pace with what is known as the fourth industrial revolution, or Industry 4.0, said Economic Planning Unit’s Deputy Director-General (Human Capital), Johan Mahmood Merican. He said the world was changing fast in terms of digital revolution as well as new technologies in other spheres, and Malaysian companies should follow suit and be in tandem with such changes. “We can see many of them still rely on cheap labour and low-level automation. For the time being that would be fine but if they are looking ahead companies need to change to be competitive,” he told Bernama on the sidelines of the ‘Industry 4.0 and Digitalisation’ conference here Tuesday. Johan praised young Malaysian talents who dared to embrace the digital revolution. The two-day conference, starting Monday, is organised by Talent Development (M) Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian Institute of Management. It focuses on the urgency with which Malaysia needs to respond to the fourth industrial revolution as more companies embrace automation. -- BERNAMA
