KLTCC To Rake In US$20 Mln In Potential IP Sales

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur Trade and Copyright Centre (KLTCC) is set to generate US$20 million in potential intellectual property (IP) sales this year compared to US$15 million recorded last year. “Over the last decade, the KLTCC has proven itself to be a vital initiative towards the copyright trade. The event also highlights Malaysia as a reliable trading nation," said Sayed Munawar Sayed Mohd Mustar, Chief Executive Officer of Perbadanan Kota Buku, the organiser of the event. He said potential sales from the event would be generated from 600 business matching sessions, which will see the participation of companies from Southeast Asia and 10 high-profile international media buyers, including those from the United Kingdom and Japan. The three-day event from Friday is an annual rights fair for Southeast Asia and the biggest trade and copyright fair in the region. The KLTCC, which is also a pocket event of the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair, is a platform to enrich the ASEAN licensing and publishing industry through IP trade and digital convergence. This year’s edition has also introduced the Future Library Convention 2017 as an initiative to highlight creative and new propositions for the library institutions of Asian countries. Sayed Munawar said libraries needed to be empowered as a catalyst in the society amid rising interest for digital content. “We need to prep all librarians as they have to engage publishers at large because eventually, the platform offered by the National Library itself is actually empowering the publishers as a whole. It is not meant for librarians only,” he said. The KLTCC started as an incubator in 2008 but it later expanded and succeeded in gaining the participation from partners in Southeast Asia and international players, where both buyers and sellers obtained great success in the copyright trade. -- BERNAMA
