Kuala Lumpur Is Seventh Best Value City Break Destination - Tripadvisor

KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur is the seventh best value destination in the world for a city break according to TripIndex Cities, an annual TripAdvisor cost comparison study. TripIndex Cities compares the cost of a three-night break during the mid-year travelling months of June to August in 40 key tourist cities worldwide, taking into account the typical costs for two people. These include a four-star hotel for three nights, a visit to three attractions, lunch each day, a taxi to and from dinner each day plus the cost for dinner. A three-night city break in Kuala Lumpur costs an average of US$886.10 (RM3,287.01) with lunch for two costing US$22.84 (RM84.75), dinner for two and wine US$67.26 (RM249.50), a taxi ride US$6.31 (RM23.44) and the average price to a paid attraction of US$109.16 (RM404.95). (US$1 = RM3.70) "TripIndex Cities helps travellers to see where their ringgit (Malaysian currency) goes the furthest but even in the most expensive cities, travellers can still find a great deal by using TripAdvisor’s price comparison tool," TripAdvisor spokesperson Jean Ow-Yeong said in a statement. When looking at the cost of a three-night city break, the 2015 TripIndex Cities report showed that travellers could find the best value in South East Asia. Apart from Kuala Lumpur, the region has three other best value cities in the top ten with Hanoi being the best value city break destination while Bangkok and Manila at fourth and ninth places, respectively. A three night trip for two in Hanoi will only set you back an average of RM2,632.23 excluding flights which is nearly three times less than the world’s most expensive destination - Cancun, Mexico, which comes in at an average of RM7,258.62. If cost of flights are not a concern, travellers can consider visiting the European destinations featured in the best value list such as Warsaw, Lisbon and Berlin - which was placed second, sixth and tenth, respectively. Meanwhile, the top five of most expensive TripIndex Cities 2015 destinations were Cancun, Mexico; Zurich, Switzerland; New York City, USA; London, UK; and Punta Cana in the Caribbean. The study was conducted by independent research firm, Ipsos. -- BERNAMA
