Lazada will start to build its e-Commerce Park this year

BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) -- Lazada, an online shopping company supports taxation on online business and plans to start the construction for its e-Commerce Park project in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in the fourth quarter of this year. Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana said he met representatives of Lazada Thailand Co and they expressed support for the Revenue Department’ plan to tax online or e-commerce businesses. They were also ready to share with the Thai government information on such taxation in other countries and did not think that the plan would affect its business in Thailand, he said. The minister said that Alibaba’s 80% stake in Lazada would support Lazada’s investment in EEC. Lazada will build the e-Commerce Park on a 300-rai land plot in a northwestern part of the EEC project site. It will be a Southeast Asian logistic centre of Lazada. It would hire a contractor in the third quarter and the construction would begin in the fourth quarter. The first phase of the project would be completed in 18 months, Mr Uttama said. According to the minister, that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society planned to link the e-Commerce Park and the 700-rai Ditigal Park project in Si Racha district, Chon Buri. Besides, Lazada is using more than 1,000 post offices of Thailand Post as its payment and delivery outlets. (TNA)
