Madrid Maersk Berths At Malaysia's Tanjung Pelepas
KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Bernama) -- Madrid Maersk, a Triple-E class vessel owned by Maersk Line, the world’s largest container shipping company, made its maiden call at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, in Malaysia's southern state Johor.
In a statement Tuesday, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) said the 20,568 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) container vessel, which berthed at the port on May 16, 2017, was on its maiden voyage for the Asia – Europe (AE 2) service loop.
“The vessel, which previously berthed at Yantian, China, is scheduled to make the next port of call at Port of Algeciras, Spain,” it said.
PTP Chairman Che Khalib Mohamad Noh said the port had the capacity and capability to accommodate mega vessels because it had the right facilities and equipment.
“The port is designed to accommodate the latest generation of container vessels and to handle huge volumes.
“Strategic investment in our equipment and facilities are continuing progressively.
“Our equipment upgrading and expansion programme will ensure that PTP is able to keep up with the rapid changes in the port and shipping industry, and subsequently, meet the growing demand of our customers,” he added.
