Malaysia Fortunate To Draw Big Investors From China - MGCC

KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is a fortunate country as it is able to attract big investors from China following the visit by Prime Minister Najib Razak to the republic recently, said Malaysia Global Chamber of Commerce (MGCC). Its President, Dr. Alex Ong, in a statement today said the Prime Minister’s efforts had succeeded in convincing the Chinese investors and the visit had resulted in the signing of nine business agreements worth RM31.3 billion (US$7.2 billion). "Now, it’s very easy for Malaysian entrepreneurs to hold discussions with their business partners in China. "It’s as if the wall that prevents Malaysia and China from forging business relations have been broken down,” he said. Ong said the Malaysian economy was in a stable position due to its close ties with China and other friendly nations, hence, Malaysian entrepreneurs should fully capitalise on these opportunities to develop the economy further and elevate the country’s name. Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Ong said Indonesia was also a strategic partner in the economy and the republic’s investment commitment had not only provided a direct impetus to the economy but also increased investors’ confidence in Malaysia. He said the government and private sector must play their roles in attracting more investors from Indonesia to the local market to improve the country’s development and economic growth. He said many countries were striving to draw investors from Indonesia, therefore, Malaysia must be at the forefront to develop its position as a destination of choice for foreign investors, especially from Indonesia. Trade and economic cooperation with Indonesian companies would create a lot of business opportunities and jobs and this would benefit the young generation, as well as the unemployed, he added. -- BERNAMA
