Malaysia: MAHB's Airports Passenger Traffic Grows 14.7 Pct In April 2017

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) – Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) network of airports (including Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport or Istanbul SGIA) recorded 10.7 million passengers in April 2017, a 14.7 per cent growth over April 2016. In a filing to the Malaysian stock exchange (Bursa Malaysia), MAHB said International traffic recorded five million passengers with a year-on-year increase of 19.5 per cent, while domestic traffic improved 10.8 per cent to 5.8 million passengers from the same period a year ago. On a last-twelve-month basis, the total MAHB network of airports registered 6.9 per cent growth with 122.3 million passengers, the highest traffic handled for 12 months by the network. The overall aircraft movements increased 4.1 per cent with international movements registering an 8.8 per cent increase, while domestic movements improved 1.4 per cent over April 2016. On the local front, airports in Malaysia registered 8.2 million passengers in April 2017, a 16.9 per cent year-on-year growth over April 2016. The international sector recorded 4.1 million passengers with a 20.2 per cent increase, while domestic sector recorded 4.1 million passengers, representing a growth of 13.8 per cent. Istanbul SGIA passengers grew 8.1 per cent in April 2017 over the same period last year with 2.6 million passengers. Istanbul SGIA’s 16 per cent international growth resembles the previous growth levels prior to a spate of incidents that occurred since June 2016. This growth is expected to continue. -- BERNAMA
