Marubeni to Develop Power Projects in Southeast Asia

Tokyo, June 14 (Jiji Press)--Marubeni Corp. <8002> said Friday it will jointly develop power generation projects in Southeast Asia with a Thai government-affiliated firm. The Japanese trading house and Bangkok-based Global Power Synergy Co. will jointly develop independent power generation projects in Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. The two companies will combine their know-how to meet growing electricity demand there. Specifically, they will consider projects suitable for each target country, such as coal- or gas-fired thermal power generation for Thailand and hydroelectric power generation for Laos. Global Power Synergy currently has a total generation capacity of some 1,040 megawatts. It plans to increase the total to some 6,000 megawatts by 2022. END
