Migrate To Cities For A Better Standard Of Living

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Bernama) -- People living in rural areas should migrate to urban or sub-urban areas, which among other things, provide better amenities in terms of connectivity and human capital, said the World Bank. Chief Economist Dr Paul Romer said better amenities would improve the standard of living, thus transforming the community into a smarter society. "We should commit to a future where everyone has the option to move to different cities that would welcome them as a resident and give them a chance to learn to become smarter and better," he said during a panel discussion on "Technology Driven Transformation: Positive Disruption", held at the Global Transformation Forum 2017 here Wednesday. During his opening speech, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said the key towards creating an urban platform was human capital and connectivity. He said Malaysia's continuous investment in human capital, connectivity and economic transformation had yield results. "When outsiders look at Malaysia, they see a place where they’d like to do business," he said. The prime minister said in 2015, Malaysia attracted US$8.12 billion (RM36 billion) in foreign investments. --BERNAMA
