Most Workers Have Low Education Backgrounds In C. Kalimantan

Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan, May 13 (Antara)- Labor force in Central Kalimantan is dominated by workers with low educational backgrounds, the regional office of the Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) said. People with junior high school and elementary school educational backgrounds make up around 71.1 percent of the the labor force in the province, based on a survey by the agency in February this year. Around 578,790 people or 51 percent of the workers in Central Kalimantan are graduates of elementary school, data released by the agency showed. The data show a decline in the quality of labor in the region with the growing number of workers having low educational backgrounds, Panusunan Siregar, chief of the Central Kalimantan BPS told Antara news agency on Sunday. Those with junior high school education reached 228,443 or 20.1 percent of the total number of workers in the province. The decline in the quality of labor in Central Kalimantan was also reflected by the shrinking number of workers having backgrounds of university education, Panusunan said In the past year, the number of workers with low education rose from 802,269 in February 2012 to 807,234 in February this year, but the number of those with university education dropped from 106,918 to 103,488 people.
