No more Silom vendors at daytime as of Nov 1
BANGKOK, October 27 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced that it will not allow hundreds of vendors to trade along pavements of Bangkok’s Silom Road, known as Thailand’s Wall Street, as of November 1, 2014.
Nearly 300 Silom vendors remain trading their products although they have less than a week left to move and to, instead, trade behind the Chatuchak Park, one of the oldest public parks in the capital under the state-run State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
The BMA has already ordered all the vendors on Silom Road to move and trade at the new site during daytime, but the City Authority allows them to trade along Silom footpaths at night, from 7pm to 2am, reasoning that it wants Silom Road to look more tidy and attractive enough for international visitors to walk or shop at major shopping malls in the area.
Vendors told TNA that they would follow the BMA's order, but claiming that there are already too many vendors at the Chatuchak Park and the new place is also too far away.
Some said they still do not know where to go, while some said they plan to move to inside alleys on Silom Road, admitting that it will also pose them a big headache because of houses situated inside the alleys and the owners are reluctant to give them the green light to trade in front of their houses.
