Pakistani Minister Terms Iran Gas Project Lifeline

Islamabad, March 28, IRNA – Pakistan Information Minister Firdous Aashiq Awan has described Iran gas pipeline project as lifeline for the country. Talking to media persons in Islamabad on Monday on the opening of two-day Jashn-e-Nowruz, she said the IP project benefits the coming generations and is imperative to control the increasing energy crises in the country. She said all the efforts which would make to stop the progress of this project would be thwarted. Pakistan and Iran have already finalized the project and under the agreement Pakistan will start import of Iranian gas by mid-2014. Energy experts term the project as very important in view of the fast growing energy demand in Pakistan. She said that the country is facing severe energy crises, adding that Iran has assured Pakistan of its full support to resolve the crises. Referring to Tehran-Islamabad amicable ties, she underlined the need to enhance cooperation in various fields. Pakistan is facing severe gas and power shortage now-a-days, which badly affect the country’s economy./end
