PM Najib To Lead M'sian Delegation To 30th Asean Summit

From M.Saraswathi MANILA, April 26 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 30th Asean Summit and Related Meetings from April 26 to 29, 2017 in Metro Manila, Philippines. He will be accompanied by his wife, Rosmah Mansor, Minister of Foreign Affairs Anifah Aman, Minister of International Trade and Industry Mustapa Mohamed and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan. The delegation will also include officials from the Prime Minister’s office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, as well as, the Economic Planning Unit, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday. The theme of the Philippines Chairmanship is, “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”, which reflected Manila’s advocacy to promote unity with and among the 10 Asean member states and its global partners. It said the summit would provide opportunities for Asean member states to discuss and implement the Asean Community Vision 2025. The summit would also provide leaders the opportunity to exchange views on the future direction of Asean, the conduct of external relations, as well as, regional and international issues of interest and concern. As part of the summit, Najib, together with other Asean leaders, are expected to hold interface sessions with representatives of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and with Asean youth representatives, said the Ministry. In addition to attending the 30th Asean Summit, the Prime Minister would also chair the 10th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit, as well as, attend the 12th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit, to be chaired by President Rodrigo Duterte. The prime minister is also expected to deliver a keynote speech at the ‘Prosperity For All Summit’, organised by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC). The event would also focus on driving growth through micro and small entrepreneurs in trade, services and agriculture. The statement also said the summit aimed to pursue genuine and inclusive growth and prosperity for the entire Asean Community. Najib is also expected to hold several bilateral discussions with his counterparts from ASEAN member states on the sidelines of the summit. -- BERNAMA
