Pumping Iranian Gas To Iraq This Week

BAGHDAD / NINA / Iran announced that next Tuesday will see the launch of the pipeline to export Iranian gas to Iraq and start pumping gas to this country. Iranian Tasnim News Agency said "The opening of the pipeline will be next Tuesday in the presence of Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh. It is mentioned that Iran and Iraq have signed a memorandum of understanding on the export of Iranian gas to Iraq in 2009, and this MoU turned later to an agreement states that Iran exports from 20 to 25 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq. In October last year a second agreement signed to export Iranian gas to Iraq and agreed on export 25 to 40 million cubic meters of gas to secure fuel to "Shatt al-Basra" station. According to the agency, some difficulties faced establishing this project because of the security issues in Iraq, where it was expected to send gas from Iran to Iraq, starting in 2013. Iranian and Iraqi sides reached after intensive talks over the past two months, an agreement to launch this line in Jan, where it will be next Tuesday the launch of a pipeline to export Iranian gas to Iraq and start pumping gas to this country. / End
