Qatar Chamber to Organize Food and Pharmaceutical Industries Expo in September

Doha, August 14 (QNA) - Qatar Chamber will organize an exhibition for food and pharmaceutical industries in mid-September in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Industry.
The first edition of the food and medicine "MedFood 2017" expo aims at introducing national products in the fields of food and medicine and providing a platform for presenting the most important companies and factories operating in these activities, thus contributing to the achievement of food and medicine security in the State.
The exhibition aims to support the national food industries, achieve more self-sufficiency of the local market and reduce dependence on food imports.
The event will also highlight investments in pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, and will reveal initiatives for the private sector to achieve drug security. It will represent a motivation for businessmen to establish pharmaceutical factories and to promote the "Made in Qatar" logo.
Commenting on the exhibition, Director-General of Qatar Chamber Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi stressed the importance of organizing such exhibition in promoting local industries that ensure food and medicine security.
He noted that the exhibition will bring together elite of major food companies and local pharmaceutical factories, while the next edition will be international with the participation of international companies and major trade names.
The exhibition serves the general trend towards self-reliance and self-sufficiency in the production of food and medicine, and achieving diversification of resources and economic independence, which is the responsibility of the private sector to direct investments towards the production of food and medicine, he added.
Al Sharqi underlined the importance of manufacturing to meet the needs of the local market, indicating that the local product has proved a great ability to compete and succeeded in being a strong alternative to other imported products, and the consumer is now choosing Qatari trade names especially in foodstuffs.
